Description
A small town with a very firm scoop policy.
The Fertile Ice Cream Parlor began when the founder bought a freezer at an estate sale and decided this qualified as a business plan. Six flavors became twelve. The scoop sizes became a matter of civic pride. Then somebody put “served hard, never soft” on the window, and the grand opening acquired a second audience.
The staff now undergoes extensive training in maintaining eye contact while customers order. The double scoop requires a waiver, according to Earl, who has no authority to issue waivers. Soft serve was discussed once. The motion died when the secretary could not read it aloud.
Every summer the shop sponsors a family night. Every summer the newspaper asks for a different photograph. Wear the shirt and support a establishment that takes frozen dairy much more seriously than its advertising.
From the Route 69 business archives. Real town. Invented establishment.
