The harvest attracts a very observant crowd.
Flasher Melon Farms began with a seed catalog and a grower who thought the town name would look nice on a produce sign. He was correct. He had not anticipated how many motorists would stop to photograph it.
The farm selects each melon for ripeness, weight, and its ability to survive being discussed by customers who should know better. The roadside stand offers generous samples. The cashier has heard every joke and now grades them silently.
Harvest weekend features a largest-melon contest, a very serious judge, and rules added specifically because of last year’s winner. Wear the tee for the imaginary farm that made fresh produce unexpectedly difficult to mention at dinner. Please handle the merchandise respectfully. The staff is tired.
